VOLUME 1, NUMBER 1
THE ANCESTORS OF THOMAS AND HANNAH (SMITH) FLEWELLING OF HEMPSTEAD, LONG ISLAND, NEW YORK
This is the start page for various articles on the Flewelling, Flewwelling, Fluelling, Flewwellin, Flewellin, Flewellyn, etc. family descended from Thomas and Hannah (Smith) Flewelling. The first article is in the nature of some preliminary remarks to allow some notion of how the family may have originated in North America, and is not my work alone, but the result of a collaboartion of many hands.
This family has been in North America approaching 340 years, and some of their ancestors for almost 370 years. While the name, in its variations, is relatively rare (which has been a boon), I do not feel that I would be wrong in the opinion that 50% of all people in North America are connected to it in some way. This why at times I have seemed to stray to a broader view.
As issue Number 1 stands, it is probably incomplete, especially in terms of proof-reading and editing. Also, tidbits do have a way of coming along which change aspects of the theories. An example is the Jaycocks (jeacockes, Jacox, Jaycox) family. Much of my summary is surmise, and frankly there are suspect areas. In spite of this, it is best that I turn to other matters as there is much to be done. VOLUME 1, NUMBER 2
THE DESCENDANTS OF ROBERT FLEWELLING OF NORTH CASTLE, WESTCHESTER COUNTY, NEW YORK
This is, I believe, the first real attempt to compile what is the main branch of the American part of the family. Robert was the son of Thomas and Hannah (Smith) Flewelling in Number 1, and I have given it priority as the Canadian families, while incomplete, have had some attention elsewhere. This has not been an easy task, and I am grateful to those kind cousins and friends who have given me their aid.
Since this is an initial work, I have taken liberties with documentation and citation. This has been, frankly, to make my work easier. If you seriously want proof, I must ask you to find it yourself; and proof is often needed. (Remember, that if you do find proof, I am interested. *Hint*)
This work is still in progress. In order to retain the 'shape' of the work, I employ tables. Each number, each name, each paragraph must be cut and pasted into these tables. This means thousands of cuts and pastes, and perhaps millions of clicks. Something I can bring myself to do for only a few hours at a time.
The advertisements at this site are the price paid for free web space. They tend to be obtrusive, but I can't really complain. I hope you can find your way around, and that there is something for you. Click on the link on the left to be wooshed to New York. |
